Performance Eyesight Trainer is a pair of sports-like goggles designed to train eyesight skills that benefit from a selective vision obstruction.

By eliminating various parts of the vision field, the trainer directs stimuli to the unobstructed area of the eye and thus promotes development of a deeper connection between that part of the eye and the brain, between what is being seen and how it is being interpreted.

To demonstrate the Trainer’s impact let’s look at its use for the development of peripheral vision

THE MOMENT YOU PUT THE TRAINER ON, YOUR VISUAL RECEPTORS AWAKEN!

“You can feel that you are aware of your surroundings. If you wear the trainer for a longer period of time, it makes your vision widen.”

— Angus Taylor, soccer

“I always look forward. I never look through the side of my eyes. The glasses force me to do that, which is cool.”

— Maddison Simmons, soccer

WHO IS PERFORMANCE FOR?

There is hardly an athletic activity that does not benefit from the athlete’s visual proficiency. Whether the need is to see a pass opening, judge the speed and trajectory of a ball in the air, or simply perform the correct reaction in a specific situation, the eyes are step one to the success.

  • Eyesight is a skill, therefore it is trainable and can be developed into a player’s asset. Given it has a positive effect on the way an athlete trains other skills, it is never too early to start.

Overboud Performance is easy to use. The flexible frame of the Trainer fits anyone 9 years and older. The Training itself is designed to allow for gradual increase in difficulty. No reason to shy away.

If, by chance, the player does not make a high school team, know that great eyesight helps with faster reading and learning. So the time will be well spent either way.

  • Expanding your field of view increases the amount of time you have to think about your next move. If playing pro is what you are after, then give it a shot. You see, there is much to gain and nothing to lose.

  • You have gotten really far. You have made it further than most and you thrive for perfection, for being the absolute best you can be. Whether you are among the starting few or you are still waiting on the sideline for your chance, Performance Eyesight Training can give you the game of your lifetime.

  • Coaches are their team’s role models. They are respected, listened to, and followed. The skills they teach stay with their players throughout their athletic career and well beyond.

More and more coaches are now moving towards a holistic approach to training, incorporating adjacent modalities, such as nutrition, psychology, and self-care.

Visual proficiency falls among these skills. Performance Eyesight training can be executed in just 10 minutes and will produce dividends in the form of your team’s performance that no other skill can.

NOTE TO PARENTS OF ATHLETES

Young athletes often rely on their parents for guidance, and many parents are heavily involved in the management of their children’s “career” moves. If that is your case and if your child’s coach hesitates to take this training on, do it yourself. While training visual skills as a team, and in the game-like environment is the golden standard that Overbound promotes (see more about this in the PERFORMANCE TRAINING section), you can help create set-ups that will work just as well. Even if you do not play your child’s sport, train with your young athlete, you may pick up a skill or two for yourself.

Visual skills trained by Overbound Performance Eyesight Trainer benefit all sports. It is not so much the skill that differs by sport, it is the way it is applied.

For example, a volleyball player, a soccer player, and a tennis player will all benefit from a proficiency to track a ball. While the volleyball player will practice this skill with a vertical emphasis (in the game, the eyes follow a ball that is constantly moving up and down), the soccer player will pay more attention to the development of horizontal ball tracking (correct passing and receiving on the ground usually generate a better play).

Another example is the use of spatial awareness by a basketball player and a tennis player. The basketball player deals with a constantly changing environment and must understand its own position, position of other players, and that of the ball at any given time (registering a short opening presents an opportunity to score). The tennis player, on the other hand, is mostly dealing with the awareness of its own position in a static environment (knowing her position on the court relative to lines, the net and the moving ball is what allows her to return the ball).

That is why Overbound emphasizes training in game-like environment, on the field, on the court, on the running track.

WHAT IS BEING TRAINED?

PERIPHERAL VISION
FOR SPATIAL AWARENESS

Peripheral vision is critical for the overall health of one’s vision. Most visual rods (the receptors responsible for seeing movement and seeing in the dark) are located in the peripheral zone (towards the corners) of the human eye. An eye with a well developed peripheral vision is an eye with a wide visual field, an eye that detects movement quickly, an eye that registers the smallest change in the game quickly, and triggers a fast reaction to the new situation.

DYNAMIC ACUITY
FOR BALL TRACKING

Following a moving target on the field or court during a game requires a great synchronization of 2 different types of eye movements (rapid saccades and smooth pursuit) that together lead to proficiency in tracking, or dynamic acuity. Their training increases the player’s ability to judge the speed of a ball or the movement of another player.

BINOCULAR & 3D VISION DEVELOPMENT
FOR JUDGEMENT OF DISTANCE

Binocular vision is a predisposition for the athlete’s ability to see depth.

Following the overall awareness of one’s surroundings that is greatly dependent on Peripheral Vision, Depth Perception - the simple existence of it and the level of its development - is the second most critical eyesight skill in sports.

Depth perception, often referred to as 3D vision, is one’s ability to see dimension in their surroundings. Without it, the world, including the game field, looks flat and the player has difficulty estimating how far objects are relative to where the player stands, judging distance between objects, or assessing the exact position of objects on the field.

DESIGN AND FUNCTIONALITY

CONTEMPORARY AND DURABLE DESIGN

Overbound Performance Eyesight Trainer has a design similar to high-end sports glasses with a sleek and contemporary looking frame. The frame and all lenses are made with TR90 Nylon to ensure comfort, flexibility and durability. They are resilient to damage, and are ready for anything that may happen during practice.

FIVE SHIELDS FOR MULTIPLE SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

Performance features five vision obstruction shields, of which three are for dual eye obstruction and two for a single eye obstruction.

Each shield was designed to train one or more specific eyesight skills and to allow for a gradual increase in training difficulty:

  • Peripheral vision (near, mid and far, lower and upper)

  • Reaction speed

  • Eye tracking

  • Binocular vision and depth perception (3D vision)

  • Eye-body coordination

THE ANATOMY OF EACH SHIELD RESPECTS THE NEED FOR CONSTANT PERIPHERAL AWARENESS

Keeping peripheral vision engaged at all times is what makes the player constantly aware of their game. Active rods allow the eye as a whole to function with ease and at a significantly higher level, which leads to the athlete’s ability to react faster and with precision.

MAGNETIC ATTACHMENT SYSTEM

Thanks to a thoughtfully designed magnetic attachment system changing the shields takes just a few seconds. That protects valuable practice time.

ADJUSTABLE STRAP INCLUDED

Silicone arm grips ensure non slip wear. For training that requires running and jumps, or for the use by younger athletes, an adjustable head strap can be clipped on and off as needed.
