TRAINING DRILLS

PV10

BALL THROW

This practice actively engages the visual system with off the ground movement, getting it ready for receiving high passes

  • Stand with your trainer on, look into the shield.

  • Your coach or teammate stands a few feet away to your side (they may/may not wear the Trainer).

  • Adjust your position to notice your coach in your periphery. Notice the ball as it is being passed/ thrown to you.

  • Receive the ball and throw it back.

  • Repeat 10-times, then switch sides.

As you progress:

  • Move the coach outside of the peripheral field of view, so that the ball becomes the only moving object

  • Add a second teammate to your other side to alternate the engagement of both eyes in a continuous manner.

  • All players engaged in the drill should wear the Trainer. Players on the ends of the setup should rotate positions every 10 repeats or in the middle of the practice time to train the second eye.

Practice time: 10+ throws from each side

Practice Lenses: #1, #2, #3

PV20

TEAM DRIBBLE

Team dribble is a simple single focused drill for beginners, and younger players. While very easy to execute, the players who are passively receiving the visual stimuli should be encouraged to take in as much of their surroundings as possible.

  • Players are divided into group A (with balls) and B (wearing their Eyesight Trainer)

  • A dribbles around B

  • B looks into the shield and pays attention to the movement around

As you progress:

  • To increase difficulty for players A, players A should wear the trainer (shield #1 or mono shields L or R)

Practice time: 1-2 minutes, then switch groups

Practice Lenses: Players B (#2, #3), Players A (#1, R, L)

Tips and Watchouts:

  • Experiment with the best set up for your group, adjust difficulty for both groups

  • Encourage players B to communicate when they see movement

PV30

STATIONARY SIDE KICK

  • Set up two groups of players

  • “B” stand in a row with several yards of space between each player, wearing the Performance Eyesight Trainer. “A” each have a ball and stand behind a row of players B.

  • A choose a side to the right or to the left of B, then dribble forward.

  • B, as soon as you see a player A in your periphery, call for a ball, turn towards A, receive and return the ball, then move to the starting position and wait for the next player A to move into your vision field.

  • B, once you receive the ball back from A, continue dribbling to the next player B. Once you have interacted with all players B return to start and repeat.

  • Switch positions (players A become B and vice versa)

As you progress:

  • At first, make the movement predictable (i.e. players A alternate sides from which they approach B). Introduce randomness as you progress (Players A coming from random sides, random distance, speed, etc.)

Practice time: 1-2 minutes, then 1-2 minutes after the groups rotate

Practice Lenses: Players B (#2, #3),
Players A for advanced practice (#1, R, L)

Tips and Watchouts:

  • Introduce lenses to players A (#1, R or L)
